The term “Vitamin E” covers eight compounds grouped into tocopherols and tocotrienols, each with different chemistries and biological effects. Clinical studies show delta- and gamma-tocotrienols provide significant health benefits, but the commonly used alpha-tocopherol form interferes with delivery of those benefits. DeltaGold® Tocotrienols used in Annatrol™ Bone Support are derived from annatto, the only known plant containing tocotrienols with virtually no tocopherols present.

In addition to numerous other health benefits, Tocotrienols have been studied in a human clinical trial of postmenopausal osteopenia subjects and reductions in bone loss were observed. In this 12-week study of 87 postmenopausal women, DeltaGold® annatto tocotrienol was administered at dosages of 300 and 600mg/day. Both doses led to decreased bone resorption and improved bone formation. One bone biomarker, the BALP/NTX ratio, which is a measure of bone remodeling, increased 100% after 12 weeks. In addition, the RANKL/OPG ratio that indicates bone resorption is high was reduced 13-24% after 12 weeks, whereas this ratio increased 21-36% in the placebo group. Furthermore, the use of annatto tocotrienol for application in postmenopausal women was shown to be safe.

GG occurs naturally in various foods, but the majority is synthesized endogenously. Production of GG declines naturally during aging and is inhibited by use of certain pharmaceutical drugs, namely, statins and bisphosphonates.

MK-4 is the primary form found in the body and is crucial for managing calcium transport, especially to the bones.
